SCB Network Rationalising
Circular No: 008/2009 5th March 2009

SCB will be closing 3 of its branches in Peninsular Malaysia

SCB notified us of its intention to close 3 of its branches namely Kangar, Teluk Intan and Kuala Terengganu.

This move is as a result of business assessment taken by the bank.

SCB gave us written assurance that they are mindful of the implication on NUBE members.  Having this in mind they are providing the option of re-deployment and re-skilling to fit into several vacancies that exist within the bank or opt for the Mutual Separation Scheme.

Notwithstanding this, we have requested the bank to take into consideration relocating members to the nearest branches and the bank has assured us of its cooperation.

SCB also advised us that the exercise of the options given to NUBE members would be on a purely voluntary basis.  There will be no forcing and/or coercing and/or persuading members to take either of the options.  You make your decision.

For those who opt for re-deployment the bank would pay a one time relocation allowance and a monthly housing allowance as follows:

Relocation Allowance

Married             -           RM 2, 500.00 per person per occasion

Single               -           RM 1, 500.00 per person per occasion

Monthly Housing Allowance

K. Lumpur/Petaling Jaya/Shah Alam/Kajang & Johore Bahru                     RM 600.00 per month

Penang                                                                                                 RM 400.00 per month

Butterworth/Kuantan/Bukit Tengah                                                           RM 300.00 per month

Port Dickson/Kelang/Kajang                                                                   RM 250.00 per month

Batu Pahat/Melaka/Alor Setar/Seremban                                     RM 200.00 per month

Setiawan/Taiping/Ipoh                                                                             RM 150.00 per month.

This policy was introduced in the mid 90’s and the last revision was in August 2000.  We are now requesting the bank to revise same especially in the current economic situation.

For those who opt for the Mutual Separation Scheme, counseling sessions will be made available to those who wish to know more about the package.

Be that as it may, our position on the Mutual Separation Scheme remains unchanged i.e. members are discouraged from opting for the Mutual Separation Scheme especially in this climate of economic uncertainties.  We would urge members to consider re-deployment.

In any event, NUBE officials at the respective NUBE branches will be available to attend to you.

One for all & all for one

J Solomon

General Secretary
