Eon Bank humiliates “1 Malaysia, Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan'' mission by exploiting and bullying employees in the lowest income group in the bank and inciting Industrial unrest in the banking industry.
In July this year, NUBE raised strong objections against the bank’s arbitrary transfer of 8 of its members, 4 married ladies, 2 married men, 1 single father and a bachelor who was the sole bread winner in a family of 10. By the kind intervention of the Melaka Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Rustam, EON bank was compelled to reconsider its decision. In early August, the bank announced that the 4 married ladies will be placed in Melaka, the single father will be transferred according to his request but the remaining 3 will have to move to Johor. NUBE objected and demanded the bank to consider transferring the 15 single employees available at 7 of its branches in Melaka. In actual fact these 3 members can be posted anywhere in the 7 branches but the bank deliberately desires to have pleasure on the suffering of the lowest income employees.
In spite of numerous discussions initiated by NUBE and the advice of the Melaka Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Rustam, EON bank displayed blatant disregard to equity, good conscience and plight of the lowest income group.
On 20.9.2009, EON bank forced the transfer from Melaka to Johor upon the 3 members with a meagerly allowance for a period of 6 months.
We are extremely concern over this exploitation of the rakyat. Transferring low wage earners, especially those married, to bigger cities where the cost of living is high is merely to frustrate them into resigning from the bank. It is a subtle form of “sacking” the rakyat.
This arbitrary transfer is just one besides the non-payment of overtime meal allowance since 2006, non-payment of performance bonus and many other forms of exploitation by EON bank. These are obvious effects of liberalization in the financial sector. Foreign entities having substantial stake in local banks such as EON bank bravely exhibit absolute disregard to the laws of the country, industrial harmony, human rights and equity.
When consultation is totally ignored, we are compelled to confront. We will organize several industrial actions including a strike action against EON bank. Let us unite together and stop this exploitation otherwise you will be the next victim.
