The carnage continues - Maybank management robs the poor to feed themselves By J Solomon Maybank's low income employees are not only deprived 80 months bonus and a fair wage, but also an equitable allocation of ESOS and other forms of share allocations. NUBE members are given around 1 lot of ESOS whereas top management, in addition of ESOS, are given Performance-Based Restricted Share Units and Supplemental Restricted Share Units. Further, selected members of senior management are given grants as an when they require to obtain the shares. "This is absolute discrimination of the poor by the rich" says a Maybank employee who merely wants to be identified as Siti. NUBE agrees that top management should get a decent higher remuneration than the lower grades but not what is happening. The difference is brutally oppressing the lower income group and creating a wider income divide. While NUBE members are borrowing to meet their day-to-day needs, the top management is busy planning how to squander the wealth of Maybank in the name of remuneration and perks. This is pillage of the worst form and the perpetrators must be brought to justice. On 5th August, NUBE delivered a memorandum to SUHAKAM which contained the violations of Human Rights and Trade Union Rights by Maybank and the Commission has agreed to investigate Maybank. Berita Harian (BH) reporters, among others, were present to cover the news but BH did not carry the contents of our Memorandum in the print media till to date. On the contrary on 7th of August, BH reported that Maybank denies all "supposed allegations of NUBE" and stated that the Maybank CEO has given ESOS , RM200 per year per child for workers earning below RM2500-00 and RM1500-00 to children of employees who earns below RM3000-00. "What is this nominal RM 200-00 and others compared to the annual income of RM4,697,000-00, monthly RM391,416-67 and daily RM12,868-00 the CEO has been squandering - not including the huge shares granted to him within the last 3 years in the Bank", says a source from Maybank. Berita Harian should practice responsible journalism and not serve as the mouthpiece of Maybank or other corporate organzations. Another member who wants to be identified as Azman questions, " Around 1 lot is given to NUBE members whereas the top management gets more than 100 times than us, where is justice? NUBE assures all members in Maybank it will continue its demand for 80 months bonus, fair allocation of ESOS, and pursue the complaints with SUHAKAM as well as other local and international human rights bodies. |
