The National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) has lodged 93 police reports nationwide against HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Stuart Milne for his decision to retrench workers against the advice of His Excellency Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the pandemic crisis.
Last year, on 18th May 2020, when there were 44 new cases of Covid-19, His Excellency Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in His Royal address urged employers not to retrench their workers indiscriminately and advised all parties to do their part and sacrifice to save the nation’s economy.
On 3rd June 2021, the CEO of HSBC Bank chose to announce the retrenchment scheme for 600 workers just when the new cases of Covid-19 skyrocketed to 8,209 with a record 103 deaths. This announcement was made despite the huge profit recorded by the Bank. More so the target groups were the B40 and M40. It is clear that the CEO’s announcement was done deliberately to undermine the advice of His Excellency Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
During normal circumstances, the government will act immediately to stop the HSBC’s act of disobedience to the King, however since the Ministers are preoccupied in safeguarding their political ambitions, they have neglected to safeguard the Ruler’s institution.
It is also obvious the record high new cases and deaths in the month of June and July 2021, as a result of Covid-19, is evident the government’s priority has been compromised. However, we believe the PDRM will not compromise in giving adequate protection to the Royal Institution and the Rakyat.
As for NUBE, the disobedience of HSBC Bank Malaysia CEO Stuart Milne is an act of treason to our King and is beyond acceptable by all Malaysians.
We are proud and thankful to the 93 Officers and Members of NUBE, who in the midst of the pandemic went to the Police stations nationwide to lodge reports to protect the Royal Institution and the workers who are undergoing mental harm caused by the uncultured HSBC CEO Stuart Milne.
