Episode One
3rd NUBE Conference, 30 August 2022
Welcome Address by Comrade J Solomon
Chairman of NUBE KLSP and General Secretary of NUBE
Respected Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of NUBE and NUBE KLSP hosting this Conference, I extend warm fraternal greeting to each one of you for taking the time and effort to join us today for our 3rd NUBE Conference 2022.
As we celebrate our 65th Independence Day tomorrow, we must reflect on the journey as fellow Malaysians, especially for NUBE travelling through time since 1958, the year NUBE was formed, one year after independence) to where we are today.
We are grateful for Malaysia, as a nation, has been a successful country with a healthy economy, we have seen many achievements by individuals who have made Malaysia proud and the various mega projects which put Malaysia on the world map.
We are also grateful to God Almighty for the strong and resilient Financial Sector that is one of the strongest contributors of our nation’s economy and has assisted Malaysians whose lives were economically disrupted during the pandemic.
65 years of Merdeka: Are Malaysian Workers Sharing the Prosperity?
We chose this topic as our theme since our 3rd NUBE Conference of 2022 is held on the eve of Merdeka. It is an apt title for us to reflect on “merdeka” and seriously evaluate if we have an equitable share of the prosperity.
If YES in what way, If NO, what went wrong?
We have experienced and knowledgeable speakers who will help us today to evaluate, what happened in the last 65 years that has shaped the minds of the Rakyat and created the Malaysia we live in today; with their valuable information
We look forward to a free discussion without any self-censorship. We must admit that without criticising or giving credit, where necessary to the current state of affairs, we cannot repair or progress further.
In short, we are going to conduct a Performance Appraisal of the governments that have administered this nation to see whether workers are treated as partners in the prosperity of our nation in the last 65 years.
