It is unacceptable to see fresh graduates in the country becoming debtors before they can even start earning a living as a result of acquiring a qualification.
Education is basic human rights and the nation’s next generation should be nurtured and provided access to the best opportunity to study up-till tertiary education without financial worries. This is especially for the unaffordable so that they will not be left behind, struggle to get access to quality education and be indebted in their pursuit to acquire qualification. This is the responsibility of every government.
MTUC demands the incoming government to abolish the repayment to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) to all students whose parents are earning below B40 and M40 ( below RM10,000.00 per month) as a move to be working in the interest of the nation.
This remains as one of the core subjects in MTUC’s 21 Workers’ Demands put forward in the run up to the 14th Malaysia General Election.
