Penang. 25TH of April 2020
Today marks the second day of the Food Distribution drive for needy Bangladeshis around the areas of Penang. This collaboration between MTUC / ILO – MRC and the Bangladesh Embassy has once again proven to be a success as a team of 9 volunteers, in 4 cars, managed to reach out to 158 locations to meet Bangladesh workers belonging to various sectors that has been affected by COVID-19.
Besides providing them with food items, we also made sure to observe and question their employment statues as well as living conditions. The Migrant Resource Centre was able to network and take up several cases of employment misconduct and we are now looking forward to supporting and assisting these workers to deal with it.
Similar to the day before, we started off with reiterating our safety guidelines as well as with providing the volunteers with all the safety gears necessary to conduct their tasks.
They were then off to their meeting points to distribute rice as well as other food items to the penurious Bangladeshis.
A huge shout out and special thanks to our officials from NUBE, EIWU as well as EIEUR for being ready to sacrifice their weekend to carry out this noble act. All of your efforts are highly appreciated.
MTUC has once again reiterated it’s policy of supporting workers everywhere and anywhere.
