We deeply appreciate and salute all Bank workers for your sacrifices.
Bankers are part of the essential services.
Bankers acknowledged their duties as akin to national services, sacrificed their safety and wellbeing arising from the exposure to the deadly virus to extend full cooperation to carry out their duties during the MCO despite the delay in the supply of complete PPE to the Bank workers. Our members faced not only untold hardship but also faced extreme mental stress as well.
The Federation of Trades Unions of Employees in Banking & Financial Institutions (FEBFI) wrote a letter to the Association of Banks in Malaysia on 6th April 2020 urging the Association to assist B40 and M40 Bank workers and the hardship they face arising out of Covid-19 and MCO. FEBFI requested the banks to pay at least RM100 per day to each bank worker who reports to work and RM50.00 to those who work from home, unfortunately; the response was not favourable.
We are honoured by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s kindness in asking the executives in Parliament today, to give a standing ovation to all front liners for their sacrifices for the nation as the country faces the Covid-19 pandemic crisis during his Royal address.
Coincidently, today, we wrote to the Minister of Finance YB Senator Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to consider the request from FEBFI since it is a known fact that the Banks can pay, even more than our requested amount to the B40 and the M40 category workers. Even some SMEs have compensated RM200.00 per day to each worker for reporting to work during the MCO. Hence, the banks being GLSs and multinationals must also take the lead.
We believe the Minister of Finance and the Banks will take the cue from the Yang diPertuan Agong and show their appreciation favourably by according the requested allowances before the forthcoming Hari Raya.
