PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry will be working with experts on early childhood education to improve the preschool education plan for government schools.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said they will be looking at the entire system, including the subjects taught and the time spent on each subject.
The government preschool education plan was last reviewed in 2015.
“I have also visited preschool classrooms in rural areas.
“We want to make sure both (rural and urban) preschools have adequate facilities,” Mahdzir told reporters after springing a surprise visit on a primary school here yesterday.
He was there to check on the teaching and learning processes in preschool classrooms.
Mahdzir said he was satisfied with the way the three preschool classes were conducted at SK Putrajaya Presint 8 (1), and that the teachers have been following the lesson plans.
Mahdzir said most of the classroom time was dedicated to learning, but not just through books and lessons.
The pupils were seen using Lego blocks as part of their lessons.
Mahdzir said there were 6,044 preschools with about 200,000 pupils registered under his ministry.
He added that there were enough teachers to teach in preschools, and that these teachers must be trained in early childhood education.
