5 April 2022. NUBE has lodged with the M/N SC over 300 complaints against HSBC Bank involving exploitation, repeated lies, harassment, abuses, violations of human rights as well as attempts at union busting.
The complaints were submitted to the Executive Director of MCBA, Mr. Looi Heong Meng, by the General Secretary of NUBE, Bro J Solomon, for the M/N SC to convene the meeting in accordance with the MCBA/NUBE Collective Agreement Article 4 – Settlement of Disputes, item (4) and (5).
All questions and disputes connected with the implementation and/or interpretation of this CA shall be dealt by the Standing Committee. In addition, parties may refer any dispute to the said committee and failure to resolve all the above shall then be referred to the Ministry of Human Resources.
For the first time in the history of the M/N SC, it has received over 300 complaints against ONE member bank. NUBE is saddened that HSBC has failed to uphold the true meaning of social dialogue for the benefit of all stakeholders in order to establish harmonious labour relations, on a stable and firm footing.
On another matter, the Customer Service Bankers category of employees covered under a separate HSBC Bank/NUBE Collective Agreement also has a Standing Committee for the same functions. On 24 February 2022, NUBE submitted complaints to the previous CEO Stuart Milne and new CEO of HSBC, En Omar Siddiq, requesting him to convene the HSBC/NUBE Standing Committee in accordance with HSBC Bank/NUBE CA. Regrettably, there has been no response despite a reminder on 2 March 2022.
In addition, NUBE submitted new complaints to the CEO of HSBC, on 4 April 2022, requesting him to comply with the CA. We hope the CEO will by now realize that his HR team has mislead him and his top management, and we hope good sense will prevail.
We will update all Members on the progress of the meetings involving both MCBA/NUBE and HSBC Bank/NUBE Standing Committee.
Meanwhile, we thank our Members for the Solidarity in support of the struggles of our fellow Bros and Sis in HSBC Bank.
SOLIDARITY FOREVER!!!
