PORT DICKSON, 3 August: As part of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive celebrations, on 28 May, NUBE KLSP organised an educational trip for 12 children from the Perkampungan Orang Asli Sg Gabai, in Hulu Langat. The location was the coastal district of Port Dickson, a very popular holiday destination. The children had never ventured out of Hulu Langat, much less been to a beach. As such, there was much excitement in the air as they travelled by bus to Port Dickson.
Accompanied by 5 parents, 4 teachers, 4 KLSP Branch Officials led by Sis Ratnesh, Bro Yusri, Bro Fauzie, Bro Roy and Cik Mariam Kassim, the Director of Program Pembangunan Komuniti at the Islamic Outreach ABIM Centre, the first place they visited was the Pusat Ikan Hiasan Port Dickson. As the children entered this ornamental fish centre, they could not contain their excitement, as they moved about looking at the beautiful and colourful various types of fish and corals.
Feeling tired, but not hungry yet. The hunger came as the children were going to the beach, near NUBE Hotel. Something that the children really looked forward to, as they have never been to a seaside beach before this, looking out at the sea.
In the past, it was picnics at Sungei Gabai or at Sungei Congkak. They could now differentiate the river from the sea, in Port Dickson. There, they had so much fun. The children were so joyful, picking up corals, catching sea cucumbers and playing with the tiny crabs, at the beach. It was a whole new experience!
As night fell, everyone had a delicious dinner. The night continued with games and finally supper. And it was back home with lots of exciting memories for everyone.
The parents, teachers and Cik Mariam Kassim thanked NUBE for organising this event. Cik Mariam hopes that this collaboration will continue, going forward. With the schools resuming classes, she believes that the children’s trip to PD will make them more motivated to study.
