The employers claim the maid fell down a flight of stairs but a post-mortem shows she died due to blunt force trauma to the chest.
GEORGE TOWN: A couple were detained after their Indonesian maid was found dead at her employer’s home in Jelutong on Saturday morning.
The 38-year-old maid was earlier reported to have fallen down from a flight of stairs at 12.45am. She died about 10 hours later in her bed.
Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the employers told police the maid was found unconscious after she apparently fell down a flight of stairs.
Mior said the employers claimed they took her to her room and laid her down on the bed. The employers found her lifeless at 11.50am the same day.
“The employer then called for an ambulance and the paramedics declared her dead soon after.
“A post-mortem revealed she had died due to blunt force trauma to the chest,” he told reporters today.
When asked if there was an element of abuse, Mior said: “That is being investigated, we are collecting statements.”
Mior said the woman had been working with the employers, a man aged 48 and a woman, 42, for the past two years.
The couple have been remanded for a week until March 5 and are being investigated for murder under the Penal Code.
