The NUBE member in Maybank Batu Pahat (name withheld to protect her privacy) suffered miscarriage on 18 April 2023 in the office. She was carrying her cash box from mezzanine floor to ground floor when she felt unwell.
She went to the clinic, but the clinic referred her to Maybank’s panel hospital because she was 12 weeks pregnant. But, when member got to the hospital, she was shocked when she was informed that her guarantee letter (GL) was inhumanly rejected by a Maybank representative for no valid reason.
Member had to borrow money from her relatives to pay the hospital a deposit of RM3,000 to get treated.
When NUBE IRC assisted our member, admitted in the hospital to file a grievance, only then, Maybank released the GL immediately.
One can imagine how traumatised our member would have felt when her GL was rejected, and she had to borrow money.
Maybank’s Humanising Financial Services and its purported claim about humanity, community and to do the right thing is hypocrisy.
Maybank has overtly dehumanized a lady who suffered miscarriage.
This goes to show the degrading conduct of a GLC bank and custodian of public funds towards a miscarriage victim.
This also goes to prove the utmost importance and value of invoking a grievance to defend member’s rights at work.
